COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fine Art course at AUB is structured to guide students through a progressive and personalised artistic journey. In the first year, students build on prior learning and are introduced to a wide range of new techniques and concepts through practice and theory-based sessions. They attend workshops, explore curating, and begin exhibiting their work. A key focus during this year is developing confidence in discussing and writing about their creative output. By the end of the year, students are encouraged to define their individual practice and identify areas of specialisation while working in a mixed practice studio setting.In the second year, students examine how their work fits within the broader Fine Art industry and how it communicates with an audience. They choose a practical working zone to base their practice, with the flexibility to move between different zones. Alongside refining technical skills, students are expected to develop clearer research questions driving their practice. Opportunities for international study and work experience are introduced, particularly through an optional independent study unit. This stage also includes research into professional practice and future career paths.The third and final year is about consolidation and refinement. Students focus on deepening their understanding of their own practice, exploring the language of Fine Art and how their work is perceived by others. With a more defined creative direction, students produce a cohesive body of work that culminates in a public degree exhibition. This event serves as a professional launchpad, offering exposure to a wider audience and potential career opportunities. Throughout the course, students are supported in developing a unique artistic voice, practical skills, and critical insight to prepare them for diverse roles in the contemporary art world.
