COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Fashion Communication course provides a progressive and immersive journey that develops students’ creative, technical, and professional skills across three levels. In Level 4, students focus on exploration, building a foundational creative toolkit while critically reflecting on the role of fashion as a communication medium. Through core units, they develop skills in photography, styling, and design theory, producing individual projects and publications that highlight their emerging strengths and specialisms. The first year emphasizes experimentation, collaboration, and the application of contemporary practices, preparing students for informed choices in their subsequent studies. Level 5 advances these skills, with a focus on innovation, critical understanding of consumer behaviour, market diversity, and ethical considerations in the fashion industry. Students engage in live briefs and problem-solving projects, exploring moving image, campaign creation, and research methods to develop visual and written communication portfolios. Opportunities for UK or international work placements enhance practical experience and professional readiness. In Level 6, students consolidate their learning through a Research Project and a Final Major Project, producing portfolio-ready work for graduate shows and exhibitions. The final year emphasizes personal branding, professional practice, and the development of a distinct creative identity, encouraging entrepreneurship, freelance work, and collaborative initiatives. Graduates emerge with the knowledge, skills, and agility to succeed in diverse roles within the fashion communication and creative industries.
