COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Communication Design and Strategy course develops students into creative professionals capable of combining strategic thinking with practical design skills. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through units covering research methodologies, design processes, image-making, typography, and digital skills. They also explore the role of strategy in communication design, learning to generate ideas, identify audiences, and collaborate effectively. Emphasis is placed on understanding narrative, context, and environment, along with developing pitching and presentation skills, providing a strong basis for further study. In the second year, students engage with more advanced topics through units that focus on designing and testing systems, understanding stakeholders, and refining typography and presentation abilities. Industry preparation is central, with guest lectures, self-branding exercises, portfolio development, networking, and entrepreneurship guidance, along with opportunities for self-initiated projects that integrate design strategy. The third year deepens practical and professional skills, with units emphasizing real-world application, national competitions, and project proposals. Students complete a final major project in Design Practice, producing a substantial portfolio aligned with career goals, while continuing professional development through networking, business logistics, and intellectual property awareness. Across all levels, the program fosters strategic, creative, and professional capabilities, equipping graduates to thrive in the evolving creative industries.
