COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Acting for Screen program guides students through a progressive and immersive exploration of acting for performance and screen over three years. In the first year, students focus on foundational skills including ensemble work, spontaneity, self-awareness, and character development, alongside voice and language work through dramatic texts. Emphasis is placed on experimentation, risk-taking, and collaborative, physical practices that develop stamina, imagination, and presence. Acting for screen and media introduces students to performance in recorded contexts, exploring how texts and narratives translate to camera and the adjustments required for different technologies. The second year builds on these foundations, expanding skills in voice, body work, and movement, while introducing advanced acting for camera techniques, motion capture, and stage and screen fighting. Students engage with historical and contemporary texts, develop skills for different film genres, and gain practical experience through collaborative short film projects with BA (Hons) Film Production. Professional Practice and Research units provide opportunities to explore broader industry contexts, enhance creativity, and conduct discipline-specific research. In the final year, students focus on professional-level public and filmed performances, including the Kodak film project and graduate film projects, building a portfolio of work across collaborative and independent productions. The program culminates in an independent research project and showcases, including professional showreels for Spotlight, preparing students for careers in screen acting and performance industries.
