COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Sport and Exercise Psychology at ARU is structured over three trimesters for full-time students and comprises seven core modules designed to provide both theoretical knowledge and applied skills. The course employs problem-based learning strategies to help students understand how performance issues can stem from underlying psychological factors and teaches essential counselling skills used in applied practice. Creative and applied learning methods, such as role-play simulations and reflective seminars, allow students to practice professional skills and apply them to real-world client scenarios. Assessments are designed to be authentic and learning-focused, including simulations, client feedback reports, and multimedia knowledge translation tasks like infographics and knowledge clips. The course also incorporates a professional development component, encouraging students to identify their practice needs and consider steps required to establish their own professional practice. Core modules cover areas such as the psychology of exercise, physical activity and health, advanced motor skills, cultural diversity in applied sport psychology, professional practice, research methods, and an extensive research project. Students may also choose from optional modules in mental health diagnosis and formulation or contemporary issues in sport, exercise, and performance psychology. By integrating theoretical knowledge, practical application, research skills, and professional development, this program prepares graduates for careers in consultancy, education, research, or establishing independent practice within sport and exercise psychology.
