COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc International Social Welfare and Social Policy at ARU assesses students through a range of methods designed to reflect professional practice and support their development throughout the course. Assessment formats include essays, reports, case studies, debates, and project work, with no formal exams, allowing students to demonstrate their learning in ways relevant to real-world social welfare and policy roles. The course emphasizes both individual and collaborative learning, providing group workshops and one-to-one supervised support for the Major Project, enabling students to pursue in-depth research on topics aligned with their interests and career goals. Core modules cover essential areas such as postgraduate research methods, global development policies and practices, intercultural communication, and welfare policy, equipping students with theoretical knowledge, practical insights, and analytical skills necessary for addressing contemporary social issues. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning further, exploring themes such as critical theories, policing transnational crime, sociological debates, race and resistance in modern Britain, and consultancy projects, thereby enhancing their interdisciplinary understanding. Overall, the course fosters critical thinking, reflective practice, and applied research skills, preparing graduates to make meaningful contributions to social welfare, policy development, and human rights initiatives at local, national, and international levels while developing a professional and adaptable skill set for diverse career paths.
