COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Games Development (Programming) at ARU is designed to reflect the multidisciplinary nature of modern game creation, sharing modules with the MA Games Development (Art) to encourage collaboration between creative and technical students. Through two collaborative development modules, you’ll apply your existing skills to interdisciplinary projects, testing game design theory while planning and executing successive projects in a team-based environment. Later, you’ll undertake a project that challenges you to design an innovative gaming experience, focusing on target platforms, audiences, and reward strategies, while also considering professional, ethical, and legal aspects of game development. A dedicated games programming module allows you to specialise in a particular technical area, recognising the complexity of modern games and the importance of gaining expertise in focused components. The course also includes a module on games data, analytics, and research, equipping you with advanced skills in data-driven approaches to game design and evaluation. The Major Project serves as the culmination of your studies, enabling you to pursue an independent research topic of your choice, supported by critical analysis and practical application. Assessment is through a blend of written and practical work, including both individual assignments and collaborative team projects, ensuring you graduate with the skills to excel in the games industry.
