COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Foundations in Clinical Psychology offers a critical exploration of mental health, with a strong focus on the debates surrounding the diagnosis of psychological disorders. The course takes into account psychological, sociocultural, and biological risk factors, encouraging students to develop a well-rounded understanding of mental health problems in adults. Students will examine the processes of clinical formulation and treatment while also gaining the opportunity to practice fundamental counselling and communication skills, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical application. The program includes core modules such as Mental Health and Distress: Approaches to Assessment and Diagnosis, Issues in Scientific Research, Clinical Formulation and Treatment, and a Psychology Dissertation, allowing students to explore mental health from both clinical and research perspectives. Additionally, students can choose between two optional modules: Essential Research Methods, which combines lectures, practical sessions, and online tasks to explore various research approaches and their societal impact; or Quantitative Research Methods, which introduces key statistical techniques and principles of data collection and analysis in psychology. Assessment methods are diverse and designed to reflect academic and applied skills, including essays, exams, portfolios, presentations, debates, data analysis, and a dissertation. The program equips graduates with critical, analytical, and transferable skills, preparing them for further study or professional pathways.
