COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Data Science Conversion course at ARU Cambridge provides a comprehensive introduction to the field of data science, designed for students from non-technical backgrounds. The program begins with an overview of core mathematical concepts and essential data science techniques, taught through a combination of lectures and practical sessions. Students gain hands-on experience with high-level programming using Python, including libraries such as NumPy, Pandas, Matplotlib, Scikit-learn, and Seaborn, without requiring prior programming experience. The course covers key principles of data mining and machine learning, enabling students to analyse complex datasets, extract meaningful insights, and develop predictive models applicable to real-world challenges. A central component of the program is the Major Project, beginning with a one-week placement at the University to identify a research topic. Students then produce a 10,000-word report, conducting data processing, analysis, and evaluation, while creating data science artefacts and presenting findings under the guidance of a project supervisor. Assessment methods include time-constrained exercises, coursework, and the Major Project, which collectively evaluate analytical, problem-solving, and research skills, as well as the ability to apply techniques effectively to practical scenarios. Core modules include Analytical Techniques, Programming with Python, Principles of Data Mining and Machine Learning, Applied Data Analysis and Research Methodology, and the Data Analytics Major Project.
