COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Interior Design Innovation at ARU is designed to develop students’ understanding of the complex ecosystem of people, processes, systems, and places, while supporting the achievement of their own planned outcomes. The course blends face-to-face and online learning through lectures, seminars, presentations, and active engagement in thinking, making, drawing, prototyping, and testing. Students are encouraged to explore art theory and practice alongside research and ideation, fostering the construction of their own knowledge and promoting higher-order thinking, including analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. Collaborative, interdisciplinary, and multidisciplinary projects form a core part of the learning experience, requiring students to reflect on their assumptions and develop innovative design solutions. Active learning involves reading, writing, discussion, problem-solving, and enquiry-based activities, emphasizing student-centred approaches over traditional teacher-led methods. Assessment is varied and tailored to the skills, knowledge, and understanding required for professional practice in interior design, encompassing design projects, written texts, staged reviews, tutorials, 2D, 3D, and 4D design work, presentations, reports, reflective portfolios, video submissions, and critical texts. The program equips students to think critically, work collaboratively, and engage with ethical, social, and environmental considerations, preparing them to create innovative, sustainable, and forward-looking interior environments that respond to contemporary urban and societal challenges.
