COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Games Art postgraduate degree at ARU runs alongside the MSc Computer Games Development (Computing), highlighting the collaborative and multidisciplinary nature of games creation. The course is structured to help students refine their creative and technical skills through a balance of practical projects and research. In the first games development module, students apply their existing knowledge to complex interdisciplinary projects, testing game design theory within a collaborative framework that emphasizes planning and execution. This is followed by a second development module where students focus on producing an innovative game experience, designed with a clear audience, platform, and reward strategy in mind, while also addressing professional, legal, and ethical considerations. Alongside these, students engage in two research-focused modules that explore methods within the creative and visual arts, examining how theory, studio practice, and reflective analysis interconnect to support critical and creative development. The program culminates in a self-directed Major Project for Games (Art), which combines practical visual work with reflective commentary to showcase the skills and knowledge gained throughout the course. Assessment is carried out through both individual and team-based written and practical work, preparing students for real-world industry demands and interdisciplinary collaboration.
