COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Christian Spirituality, taught by the Cambridge Theological Federation and accredited by ARU, offers students the opportunity to explore the depth and diversity of Christian spiritual traditions while tailoring their studies to their own interests. All students, whether pursuing an MA, PG Cert, or PG Dip, study the core module Christian Spiritual Traditions East and West, which provides a foundation in historical and contemporary perspectives across global Christianity. PG Dip and MA students then choose three optional modules, selecting from a wide range of specialist topics such as children’s spirituality, Christian spirituality in the contemporary world, spirituality and the body, Wesleyan theology, interfaith relations, mysticism, love, and ecological approaches to spirituality. Further options include Christian spirituality and the arts, Celtic and medieval spirituality, Ignatian spiritual direction, and the integration of psychology, philosophy, and spirituality. This variety allows students to critically engage with both traditional and modern issues of Christian spirituality and to connect their learning to personal, professional, and vocational contexts. MA students additionally complete a substantial Major Project (dissertation), offering the chance to conduct independent research in a chosen area of interest. This flexible yet rigorous program equips graduates with academic depth and applied insight, preparing them for roles in pastoral care, interfaith work, ministry, or further research.
