COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA Art, Health and Wellbeing offers an integrated curriculum that explores how creative practice can respond to contemporary health, social and environmental challenges. The course begins with Critical and Contextual Studies, which examines key questions about the nature and purpose of art and creativity in the 21st century, and their potential to address wellbeing issues through theory, experimentation and self-directed projects. Care Ethics: Place, Environment, and Community develops ethical awareness by linking care ethics, public policy, environment and socially engaged creative practice, encouraging students to reflect on responsibility, impact and decision-making within complex community contexts. The Grand Challenge module applies art as a transformative and ethical tool to tackle pressing global and local issues through industry-led, multidisciplinary collaboration, enabling students to design innovative interventions while developing professional networks, enterprise skills and strategic thinking. Care Practices: Creative Future Health focuses on participatory and community-led approaches, equipping students to work within complex adaptive systems and to create creative projects that function as therapeutic and advocacy tools across diverse cultures and age groups. The Art for Health and Wellbeing module brings the program together by integrating personal values, research and experimentation into a focused project that demonstrates advanced understanding, creative mastery and the ability to deliver impactful, real-world solutions to current and future health and wellbeing challenges.
