COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM SQE course at ARU is designed to prepare law graduates for the Solicitors Regulation Authority SQE1 assessment while equipping them with practical skills for a range of legal careers. Students study three core modules—SQE1 Preparation Functioning Legal Knowledge, Introduction to Practical Legal Skills, and the LLM SQE Major Project—alongside up to three optional modules tailored to individual career goals. Optional modules cover areas such as Family Law, Employment Law, Comparative Law, Corporate Governance, International Human Rights, Digital Law, and more, allowing students to specialise in their areas of interest. Assessment methods focus on practical application of legal knowledge in real-world scenarios. The multiple-choice assessment simulates the SQE1 exam, enabling students to practice Functioning Legal Knowledge and become familiar with the format and style of questions. Students also compile a portfolio documenting the development of practical legal skills, demonstrating their competence in applying law to actual problems. Optional modules are assessed through written coursework based on real-world tasks, requiring students to identify issues, analyse relevant rules and principles, and propose practical solutions. Overall, the course combines theoretical grounding, applied legal practice, and professional development to ensure graduates are prepared for the SQE1 examination and for success in a variety of legal and related career paths, offering both flexibility and specialised expertise.
