COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLM International Law degree at ARU provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles, practices, and challenges of international law. The course comprises six core modules designed to develop both theoretical knowledge and practical skills relevant to legal practice in an international context. Students begin by building essential academic foundations through the Postgraduate Study Skills, Research Methods, and Ethics module, equipping them with the tools to conduct rigorous legal research and critically analyse complex issues. The program then explores substantive areas of law, including International Law: Problems and Processes, which examines the structures and mechanisms that govern states’ interactions, and International Law and the Rights of Individuals, focusing on human rights frameworks and protections. Students also study International Economic Law and Policy, gaining insight into global trade, finance, and regulatory environments, and International Dispute Settlement, which investigates the resolution of cross-border disputes through negotiation, arbitration, and adjudication. Assessment methods are varied and professionally oriented, including written coursework, oral presentations, online quizzes, practical projects, reflective work, and a final Major Project dissertation. Assessments are supported with clear feedback and marking criteria to ensure inclusive learning. This combination of rigorous academic study, practical application, and independent research prepares graduates for careers in international legal practice, policy-making, and global organisations.
