COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Science for Health degree at ARU in Writtle provides a comprehensive understanding of human performance, health, and exercise. In the first year, students build a foundation in human physiological systems, applied professional skills, and the psychological fundamentals of sport and exercise, alongside modules focusing on physical literacy and enhancing youth capabilities. The second year expands this knowledge through exercise physiology, nutrition for sport, health and exercise, research skills in sport and exercise science, and strength and conditioning, while also offering specialized training for exercise referral practitioners. Students engage in practical and theoretical learning, preparing them to support individuals with varying needs in health and fitness settings. In the final year, the program emphasizes applied exercise physiology, performance and exercise nutrition, sport and exercise medicine, and exercise rehabilitation for chronic health conditions. Students complete a major project or work placement, gaining hands-on experience in real-world contexts. Across all three years, the course combines scientific theory with applied practice, equipping graduates with the knowledge, practical skills, and critical thinking required to pursue careers in elite sport, health promotion, exercise rehabilitation, and clinical settings. The program prepares students to make meaningful contributions to individual and community wellbeing through evidence-based approaches in sport, exercise, and health contexts.
