COURSE CURRICULUM

The Sport Coaching and Physical Education degree at ARU provides a comprehensive and practical approach to developing expertise in sport, exercise, and physical education. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in multidisciplinary sport and exercise science while exploring sport coaching and development, practical delivery of physical education, and professional development skills. Accredited qualifications, such as the CIMSPA Level 2 Gym Instructor, are included to enhance employability and practical experience. In the second year, the course focuses on applied skills, including performance analysis, coaching and teaching, sport development, psychological profiling, nutrition, perceptual motor skills, and strength and conditioning, along with applied research skills and professional development. Students also have the opportunity to gain the CIMSPA Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification. The final year develops advanced knowledge and leadership skills, with modules covering long-term athlete development, coaching philosophy and ethics, mentoring, strategic sports management, exercise medicine, performance and exercise nutrition, applied sports psychology, and contemporary issues in sport and performance psychology. Students complete an undergraduate research project and an advanced work placement, allowing them to apply theory in real-world settings. Graduates leave with a blend of scientific understanding, coaching expertise, and practical experience, prepared to inspire athletes, lead in physical education, and contribute to sport development at all levels.
