COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology with Education degree at ARU offers an in-depth exploration of human behaviour, cognition, and emotion, with a particular focus on educational contexts. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in core psychological principles through modules such as Becoming a Researcher, Self and Society, Mind and Behaviour, and Clinical and Health Psychology, alongside optional studies in The Psychology of Everyday Life and language development. Year two expands on these fundamentals with advanced modules in statistical and qualitative research methods, social psychology, brain and body function, and mental health diagnosis and formulation, providing students with practical and analytical skills essential for understanding behaviour in educational settings. In the final year, students integrate theoretical knowledge with applied experience through a psychology project and specialised modules focusing on educational psychology, atypical development, inclusion, and special educational needs, alongside studies in workplace psychology, cognitive neuroscience, culture and health, sex and gender, psychological assessment, and stress management. A compulsory work experience component allows students to apply learning in real-world educational settings, enhancing professional development and employability. Graduates are equipped to pursue careers in educational psychology, special educational needs support, teaching assistance, and related roles, or continue into postgraduate study, contributing effectively to the development and wellbeing of children and young people in diverse learning environments.
