COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology with Criminology degree offers a comprehensive study of human behaviour, criminal justice, and the psychological factors influencing crime. In the first year, students build a strong foundation with modules covering contemporary criminology issues, the psychology of everyday life, criminal justice in England and Wales, clinical and health psychology, and research skills. This equips students with the analytical, critical thinking, and research abilities necessary for understanding both individual and societal behaviour. In the second year, the focus expands to more specialised areas, including social psychology, brain and behaviour, mental health assessment, and criminological topics such as punishment, rehabilitation, and substance use, alongside practical research methods and statistical analysis. In the final year, students explore advanced topics including forensic and investigative psychology, psychological assessment, cognitive neuroscience, stress management, criminology in policy and practice, and various applied and contemporary issues such as youth crime, exploitation, sexual violence, and organised crime. Students also undertake a psychology project and have the opportunity to select from optional modules that reflect their personal interests and career goals. The degree combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills, preparing graduates for careers in criminal justice, forensic psychology, clinical and applied psychology, research, and related fields, while also providing a strong foundation for postgraduate study.
