COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Science degree at ARU is designed to provide a thorough understanding of the human body, disease mechanisms, and the principles of treatment and prevention, blending theoretical knowledge with practical skills. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in core subjects such as Cellular and Molecular Biology, Human Anatomy and Physiology, Principles of Biomedical Science, and Fundamentals of Nutrition, Drugs and Metabolism, alongside developing essential Scientific Communication and Professional Skills. The Into ARU module supports the transition to university study and academic life. Year 2 expands on these foundations with modules including Essential Physiological Biochemistry, Applied Pathophysiology, Principles of Pharmacology, and Fundamentals of Epidemiology, while students also design and plan research through the Research Proposal module and develop broader academic perspectives via the Ruskin Module. In Year 3, students apply their knowledge to more advanced and specialised topics such as Applied Pharmacology, Biotechnology, and Specialist Case Studies, while critically engaging with Contemporary Issues in Medical Science. The Undergraduate Major Project enables students to conduct independent research, applying their theoretical and practical skills to real-world challenges. Across all three years, the program emphasizes problem-solving, scientific communication, data analysis, and professional skills, ensuring graduates are well-prepared for careers in medical laboratories, research, healthcare, or further study in biomedical sciences and related fields.
