COURSE CURRICULUM

The Integrated Health and Social Care degree is structured to build knowledge and skills progressively across three years. In the first year, students explore the human body in health and disease, the importance of integration and multidisciplinary teamwork, and the fundamentals of safeguarding practice. They also examine inequality and disadvantage in health and social care, alongside gaining hands-on experience through Professional Practice 1. The second year deepens understanding by focusing on learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and holistic approaches to mental health. Students also study child and young people protection, integrated care for individuals with long-term health conditions, and continue developing professional skills through Professional Practice 2. In the final year, the course addresses sensitive and complex areas such as death, dying, and end-of-life care, while also broadening perspectives with a focus on cross-cultural approaches to health and social care. Professional Practice 3 further enhances workplace readiness, and students complete either an Undergraduate Major Project or an Undergraduate Placement Project, allowing them to apply learning to a substantial piece of independent or work-based research. This structure ensures graduates are well-prepared for diverse roles within health and social care, with strong professional, practical, and analytical skills.
