COURSE CURRICULUM

The Horticulture degree provides a comprehensive mix of scientific knowledge, practical skills, and industry insight, structured to prepare students for diverse roles in the field. In Year 1, students build a foundation in graduate and professional skills, sustainable development principles, and landscape design, alongside studies in biological processes, climate, soils, and land use. Practical expertise is developed through modules on plant propagation, growth, and production. Year 2 focuses on academic and professional development, political and economic contexts, and environmental management, with specialised studies in plant physiology, fresh produce production, and optional pathways such as arboriculture, plants in urban environments, or international value chain modules. These options allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests or career goals. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation on a chosen horticultural topic while exploring natural resource management, community horticulture, and contemporary urban landscapes. Advanced modules in crop management, global production trends, and international trade and markets provide a global perspective on the industry. Throughout the course, students gain valuable hands-on experience, theoretical understanding, and transferable skills, enabling them to address modern horticultural challenges and contribute to sustainable plant production, environmental stewardship, and innovative landscape solutions.
