COURSE CURRICULUM

The Health and Social Care degree provides a comprehensive understanding of the sector, beginning in Year 1 with an exploration of the need for care and the range of public, private, and voluntary organisations that meet those needs. Students develop knowledge of professional values, ethics, and boundaries, alongside legislation and policies that promote effective health and safety practices, covering topics such as hazard identification, risk assessment, infection control, PPE, and waste management. Core modules include Fundamentals of Human Anatomy and Physiology, Academic and Professional Skills, Health and Safety in Care Settings, and The Health and Social Care Environment. Year 2 focuses on human development across life stages, the impact of genetic, biological, social, and environmental factors, and the identification and context of different forms of abuse. Students study significant life events, coping mechanisms, and health promotion strategies, with modules such as Lifecycle Development, Safeguarding, Mental Health and Wellbeing, and Sustainability in Career Development. In the final year, students examine contemporary healthcare issues, comparative healthcare systems, and leadership in driving change, culminating in an Undergraduate Major Project based on real-world research. Throughout the course, varied assessments and practical activities develop critical thinking, teamwork, and transferable skills sought by employers.
