COURSE CURRICULUM

This Finance and Accounting degree offers a progressive learning journey, starting in Year 1 with an introduction to business structures, organisational purpose, corporate governance, and ethics. Students gain skills in preparing and processing basic cost and quantitative information for budgeting, planning, and decision-making, alongside a foundation in financial accounting, covering statements, assets, and liabilities. Employability skills are developed through critical thinking, group work, and varied assessments. Year 2 expands into the English legal system, management accounting techniques, and application of accounting standards in preparing and interpreting financial statements. Students study business taxation, including income tax, corporation tax, VAT, and national insurance, alongside business and corporate law. Year 3 focuses on financial management strategies such as shareholder wealth maximisation, investment, financing, and dividend decisions, as well as strategic planning and risk assessment. Students learn auditing principles, including evidence gathering, financial statement review, and audit reporting. The Undergraduate Major Project allows for independent research on real-world finance and accounting issues. Across all years, assessment methods include coursework, group projects, and presentations, ensuring the development of analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills. Graduates leave equipped with both technical expertise and transferable skills for careers in finance, accounting, and business management.
