COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Exercise and Health Science program is structured over three years to provide a comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles underpinning physical activity, health and wellbeing. In the first year, students develop a strong foundation in key scientific disciplines, including human anatomy and physiology, microbiology, mathematics for biosciences, and health, fitness and training, alongside academic skills specific to exercise and health science. The second year builds analytical and applied knowledge through modules such as applied physiology, epidemiology and physical activity, and research in exercise and health science. Students also explore behavioural science, nutrition, metabolism, healthy environments and lifestyle factors that influence health outcomes, supported by broader learning through the Ruskin Module. In the final year, the focus shifts to advanced and applied practice, with modules covering the science of aging, clinical exercise prescription and contemporary issues in exercise and health. The program culminates in an undergraduate major project or placement project, allowing students to apply scientific knowledge to real-world health and exercise contexts. Overall, the course equips graduates with strong scientific understanding, research capability and practical skills, preparing them for careers in exercise science, health promotion, clinical exercise, community wellbeing and further academic or professional training.
