COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Equine Therapy, Rehabilitation and Performance program is structured over three years to develop scientific knowledge, practical skills and professional competence in supporting equine health and performance. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules covering equine anatomy and physiology, factors affecting equine performance and wellbeing, principles of equine therapy assessment, and interdisciplinary perspectives on nutrition, behaviour and welfare, alongside the development of core professional skills. The second year focuses on applied therapeutic practice and scientific understanding, with modules in equine hydrotherapy and first aid, manual intervention techniques, equine health, disease and pain mechanisms, and research methods. Students may also study functional anatomy and biomechanics of equine movement and horse and rider development, allowing deeper insight into performance analysis. In the final year, learning becomes more advanced and practice focused, with modules covering applied techniques in equine massage, rehabilitation and hydrotherapy, integrated approaches to equine exercise physiology, and equine biomechanics and pathophysiology. The program culminates in a major project, enabling independent research or applied clinical investigation. Emphasis is also placed on professional development, ethical and sustainable approaches to equine welfare, and performance analysis. Overall, the course equips graduates with the clinical reasoning, practical expertise and professional readiness required for careers in equine therapy, rehabilitation and performance support.
