COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Equine Science program is structured over three years to provide a comprehensive scientific understanding of equine health, behaviour, performance and welfare. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules covering the fundamentals of the equine industry, equine science, husbandry and welfare, and structure and functional assessment, alongside an introduction to university study. The second year develops deeper scientific and analytical knowledge, with modules in equine behaviour science, exercise physiology and nutrition, clinical bioveterinary science, and equine reproduction and genetics. Research methods training supports evidence-based learning, while optional modules such as horse and rider development and veterinary interventions and diagnostics allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests. In the final year, students engage with advanced and contemporary topics, including advances in equine nutrition, ethical and sustainable approaches to equine welfare, and performance analysis. The program culminates in a major project, enabling independent research or applied investigation within equine science. Throughout the course, students apply scientific principles to real-world scenarios, developing critical thinking, data analysis and decision-making skills. Overall, the program equips graduates with strong scientific knowledge, practical competence and transferable skills, preparing them for careers in equine science, animal health, research, education and related professional fields.
