COURSE CURRICULUM

The Crime and Investigative Studies undergraduate program offers a structured and in-depth exploration of forensic science, law enforcement, and investigative techniques over three years. In the first year, students build a foundational understanding of the United Kingdom legal system and its relevance to forensic practice, alongside applied science, forensic photography, and investigative skills. Modules on biological and trace evidence analysis provide hands-on experience, while professional development, group tutorials, and the Into ARU module support personal growth and academic integration. The second year expands practical and theoretical expertise, covering forensic scene examination, police and forensic investigations, fire investigation, mass fatality incidents, and evidence-based policing. Students also explore digital forensics and undertake project preparation, with the Ruskin Module and professional development sessions fostering critical thinking and interdisciplinary learning. In the final year, students focus on advanced topics and major projects, including management of major investigations, specialised investigative science, forensic pathology, forensic anthropology, and major investigations. Group tutorials continue to provide guidance and collaboration opportunities. The program emphasizes a combination of practical skills, scientific understanding, and legal knowledge, preparing graduates for careers in forensic investigation, law enforcement, or related fields. Through hands-on training, theoretical study, and professional engagement, students develop the expertise required to conduct methodical investigations and contribute effectively to real-world criminal justice processes.
