COURSE CURRICULUM

The Computing degree at ARU offers a thorough and practical education designed to prepare students for a wide range of careers in the IT sector. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in core computing skills, covering programming fundamentals, relational database development, computer systems and networking basics, and web development, while also receiving an introduction to university study through the Into ARU module. Year 2 expands on this knowledge, with a focus on object-oriented programming, machine learning, and artificial intelligence fundamentals, alongside professional development through the Becoming an IT Professional module. Students also gain hands-on experience with team-based projects and develop expertise in digital forensics and understanding the digital footprint, providing insight into cyber security challenges. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a major project, applying their technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills to a substantial individual piece of work. Additional modules cover advanced networking, ethical hacking, future technologies, and the development of legacy software systems, ensuring graduates are well-versed in both contemporary and emerging IT practices. Throughout the course, students gain a balance of theoretical knowledge and practical experience, equipping them with the technical skills, professional awareness, and confidence needed to succeed in computing, software development, cyber security, and related technology roles.
