COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Canine Therapy, Rehabilitation and Performance program is structured over three years to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of canine health, wellbeing, and performance. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge and practical skills through modules covering canine anatomy and physiology, factors affecting canine performance and wellbeing, principles of canine therapy assessment, interdisciplinary perspectives on canine nutrition, behaviour and welfare, and professional skills development. This prepares students for applied learning in clinical and therapeutic settings. The second year focuses on advanced scientific and practical knowledge, including functional anatomy and biomechanics of canine movement, manual intervention techniques, canine health, disease and pain mechanisms, hydrotherapy and first aid, and research methods. The Ruskin Module supports broader academic and professional development. In the final year, students consolidate their expertise and apply it in practice through modules on integrated approaches to canine exercise physiology, applied techniques in canine massage, rehabilitation and hydrotherapy, canine biomechanics and pathophysiology, and professional development for career success. The program culminates in a major project, allowing students to undertake independent research or applied clinical work. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience in the specialist Canine Therapy Clinic, develop evidence-based clinical skills, and graduate prepared to work professionally in canine therapy, rehabilitation, performance enhancement, and related animal health careers.
