COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Biomedical Sciences program is structured over three years to provide a progressive and comprehensive understanding of biological and medical science. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through the study of human anatomy and physiology, cell biology, biochemistry, core biology, microbiology and mathematics for the biosciences, alongside an introduction to university study and professional development. The second year develops deeper scientific knowledge and practical skills, focusing on diagnostic techniques in pathology, genetics, metabolism, pathology and organ system physiology. Students are also introduced to research preparation and continue their professional development, with opportunities to study specialised laboratory techniques in DNA manipulation and bioinformatics. In the final year, learning becomes more advanced and research focused, with modules covering human pathology, blood sciences, clinical immunology and current advances in biomedical science. Students explore specialist and optional topics such as molecular cell biology, microbial pathogenicity, biomedical case studies and pharmacology and translational medicine. A significant undergraduate research project allows students to apply their knowledge independently, developing critical analysis and practical research skills. Overall, the program equips graduates with strong scientific understanding, laboratory competence and professional readiness for careers in biomedical science or further study.
