COURSE CURRICULUM

This sport and exercise science course offers a structured progression from foundational knowledge to advanced application. In the first year, students explore human physiological systems, psychological fundamentals in sport and exercise, and develop applied professional skills. They also learn essential testing and evaluation methods, including sport-specific athlete assessments. The second year builds on this with exercise physiology, nutrition for sport, health and exercise, and research skills, alongside modules in strength and conditioning and detailed analysis of human movement and performance. The Ruskin Module provides an additional opportunity for interdisciplinary learning. In the final year, students advance to applied exercise physiology and performance-focused nutrition, while undertaking either a major independent research project or a work placement to gain industry experience. Further study includes sport and exercise medicine, with a focus on injury prevention and rehabilitation, and applied inclusive practice, ensuring students are equipped to work with diverse populations. Across the program, students develop scientific, technical, and analytical skills, preparing them to assess, support, and optimise athlete performance in a safe and ethical manner. This combination of theory, practical experience, and research training positions graduates for careers in sport science, coaching, rehabilitation, or further academic study.
