COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Animal Therapy, Rehabilitation and Performance degree is structured to develop scientific understanding, practical expertise and professional skills across three years of study. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in animal anatomy, physiology and wellbeing, alongside core principles of animal therapy assessment, nutrition, behaviour and welfare. Modules focus on understanding factors that influence animal performance and health, while developing essential professional skills for working safely and ethically with animals. Year 2 advances learning into functional anatomy and biomechanics, exploring how animals move and how performance and rehabilitation can be enhanced. Students study manual intervention techniques, animal health, disease and pain mechanisms, supported by research methods and practical skills such as hydrotherapy and first aid. The Ruskin Module encourages broader reflection on social responsibility and ethical practice. In Year 3, students apply their knowledge to advanced and integrated approaches, including exercise physiology, animal biomechanics, pathophysiology and specialist rehabilitation techniques such as massage and hydrotherapy. A Major Project allows independent research in a chosen area of interest, while professional development modules prepare students for career success. Together, the program offers a comprehensive blend of theory, hands-on practice and professional preparation, equipping graduates for careers in animal therapy, rehabilitation, performance and related animal health fields.
