COURSE CURRICULUM

The Animal Science degree provides a comprehensive mix of scientific theory, practical skills, and industry knowledge, preparing students for a wide range of careers in the animal sector. In the first year, students develop core competencies through modules in professional skills, animal biology, ethics of animal use, biochemistry, husbandry, and ecology, alongside hands-on practical experience. The second year builds on this foundation with research methods, commercial and professional skills, behavioural studies, nutritional biochemistry, reproduction, and animal health science, with optional modules covering areas such as livestock production, zoo management, wildlife conservation, veterinary microbiology, immunology, and animal rehabilitation. In the final year, students undertake a major research project and explore advanced topics such as nutrition, genetics, animal health, welfare, and technology, with further specialisation available in areas including livestock production, wildlife conservation, zoo management, clinical behaviour, public health, and veterinary ethics. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on practical competence, critical analysis, and problem-solving, with opportunities for fieldwork, laboratory training, and direct work with a variety of species. Graduates leave with the scientific understanding, technical expertise, and transferable skills required to contribute to animal welfare, conservation, research, and management in both domestic and international contexts.
