COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Animal Management (Zoo and Wildlife Conservation) degree is designed to prepare students for careers focused on protecting zoo animals, wildlife and their ecosystems. The program builds knowledge progressively across three years, combining animal science, conservation theory and practical skills. In Year 1, students develop strong foundations in animal biology, ecology and evolution, animal husbandry and ethics, alongside professional skills and human–animal interaction, providing an understanding of responsible animal care and conservation principles. Year 2 deepens scientific and applied knowledge through modules in behaviour, animal health and welfare, nutrition, reproduction and breeding, and the management of zoo animal collections. Wildlife conservation skills and research methods strengthen practical fieldwork, analytical and professional competencies relevant to conservation roles. In Year 3, students focus on advanced, applied topics such as wildlife conservation challenges, zoo management developments, applied behaviour, nutrition and health management. A Major Project allows independent research into a specialist area, developing critical thinking, data analysis and professional reporting skills. Across the program, students gain transferable skills in communication, problem-solving and professional practice. Together, the curriculum provides a balanced blend of science, conservation and management, preparing graduates for careers in zoos, wildlife conservation organisations, animal welfare charities, research, education and environmental management.
