COURSE CURRICULUM

The BEng (Hons) Biomedical Engineering course combines engineering principles with biological and medical sciences to prepare students for designing and developing innovative healthcare solutions. In Year 1, students build a foundation in human anatomy and physiology, biology, and biomedical engineering, alongside applied engineering mathematics, electronics, embedded systems, and structural mechanics. Year 2 focuses on applying these fundamentals through practical projects, such as the electronic design project and robotic control design project, while also exploring biomaterials, advanced engineering mathematics, signals, and signal processing. The Ruskin Module further develops interdisciplinary and transferable skills. In Year 3, students advance into specialised areas including human motion biomechanics, tissue engineering, automation and control, computer-aided engineering, nanotechnology, and robotics with machine intelligence. They also undertake research methods training and complete an individual project, allowing them to apply their knowledge to a real-world biomedical engineering challenge. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on integrating technical expertise with medical applications, ensuring graduates are capable of innovating in the development of medical devices, prosthetics, rehabilitation systems, and diagnostic tools. By the end of the program, students will possess the skills, knowledge, and practical experience needed to excel in biomedical engineering careers or progress to further research and specialised study.
