COURSE CURRICULUM

The Musical Theatre degree at ARU Cambridge provides a comprehensive and practical education designed to develop skilled, versatile performers. In Year 1, students focus on building core technical skills through modules such as Technical Skills 1 and 2, and participate in The Small-Scale Musical, supported by the Into ARU module to ease the transition into university study. This initial year emphasizes foundational performance abilities in singing, acting, and dancing while introducing students to collaborative performance processes and stagecraft. Year 2 expands on these skills with modules including The Book Musical, Theatre Theory and Specialist Skills, and Technical Skills 3, alongside the Ruskin Module, allowing students to deepen their understanding of performance theory, character development, and professional practice. Students continue to refine their artistry and prepare for more complex productions. In Year 3, students consolidate their learning through the Undergraduate Major Project, Professional Preparation, and Professional Practice, while selecting from specialist modules such as Directing, Stage Choreography, Acting Through Song, Vocal Reel, Dance Collaboration, and Workshop Facilitation. These experiences provide extensive practical training and develop advanced performance, creative, and leadership skills. Across all three years, the program emphasizes collaboration, professional standards, and creative versatility, equipping graduates for successful careers in musical theatre, stage performance, and related performing arts industries.
