COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graphic Design course offers a structured progression from foundational skills to advanced professional practice, preparing students for a range of creative industry roles. In the first year, modules such as Graphic Design: Histories and Ideas, Introduction to Type Media, and Introduction to Web Design build core knowledge of design principles, typography, and digital tools. Students develop creative problem-solving skills through Graphic Design Ideation and Iteration and learn practical techniques in Graphic Design Process and Application, supported by the Into ARU module to ease the transition into university study. In the second year, the focus shifts towards developing conceptual thinking and refining creative approaches through Conceptual Thinking and Practice and Conceptual Progression and Development. Students explore different design mediums in Graphic Design: Media Specialisms 1 and 2, gain industry insight through Professional Studies in the Creative Industries, and broaden perspectives with the Ruskin Module. The final year emphasises independence and professional readiness, with the Graphic Design: Final Project serving as a major portfolio piece. Optional modules such as Working in the Creative Industries and the Research Project allow students to tailor their learning towards career goals or deeper academic exploration, ensuring they graduate with both creative expertise and practical industry knowledge.
