The Game Design and Digital Art degree combines creative artistry with technical game development skills, progressing from core design principles to advanced immersive experiences. In Year 1, students explore Narrative Game Design, Designing Game Mechanics, and Level Design with Rapid Game Prototyping, learning to create engaging gameplay and interactive worlds. Modules in Game Monetisation, Analytics and Engagement provide insight into commercial strategies, while Specialist Practice in Gaming allows for early skill specialisation, supported by the Into ARU module. Year 2 focuses on artistic and technical skills with 3D Modelling & Animation, The Art of User Interfaces, and Environmental Art and Design, equipping students to produce high-quality visual assets and immersive game environments. The Ruskin Module broadens creative perspectives, while Team-Based Game Development replicates real industry workflows. In the final year, students advance into Real-Time 3D and the Art of Immersive Experiences, pushing creative boundaries with Experimental Practice in Gaming. The capstone Game Studio Design and Development module enables students to produce a polished, professional-standard game project for their portfolio. Across all years, the course integrates design, art, and development skills, preparing graduates for careers in game design, digital art, 3D modelling, and related creative and interactive media industries.
