COURSE CURRICULUM

The Criminology and Policing undergraduate program offers a comprehensive study of criminal justice, policing, and contemporary criminological issues over three years. In the first year, students are introduced to foundational topics such as contemporary issues in criminology, criminal justice in England and Wales, and policing, alongside modules exploring media, society, and crime, as well as practical policing practice. The Into ARU module supports academic integration and personal development. The second year expands on evidence-based policing, societal research methods, and vulnerability in policing, while addressing specialized topics such as cybercrime, lessons from inquests and tribunals, violence, gender, and victimization. Students also examine intoxication, rehabilitation, youth work, and digital investigations, including dark web policing. The Ruskin Module and Anglia Language program provide additional academic and language support. In the final year, students focus on advanced studies and research through major projects in criminology and policing, alongside modules on youth, crime and aggression, investigative psychology, exploitation, trafficking, sexual violence, and neighbourhood policing. Additional areas of study include race and ethnic identity, police and counter-terrorism, organized crime, comparative criminal justice, and crime data science. The program equips students with a balance of theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and research expertise, preparing them for careers in law enforcement, criminal justice, policy, and related fields while fostering critical understanding of societal and ethical dimensions of crime and policing.
