The Computer Games Art degree program is structured across three years to develop skills for a career in the games industry. In Year 1, students are introduced to foundational concepts through modules like Game Concepts and Analysis, which explores the principles of game design, and Introduction to Game Art, focusing on core artistic techniques. Digital Sculpting for Games teaches students to create detailed 3D models using tools like ZBrush, while Game Art Creation emphasizes crafting game-ready assets with software such as Autodesk Maya and Adobe Substance Painter. The Into ARU module supports students’ transition into university learning, fostering academic and professional skills. In Year 2, the curriculum advances with Collaborative Games Development, where students work in teams to simulate industry workflows, and Specialised Practice in Games Art, allowing deeper exploration of specific art disciplines like character or environment design. Technical Development for Games enhances proficiency with tools like Unreal Engine 5, focusing on technical pipelines for asset creation. The Ruskin Module, worth 15 credits, encourages interdisciplinary learning and creative exploration. In Year 3, Studio Practice for Games simulates a professional studio environment, refining students’ portfolios through real-world projects. The Major Project for Games serves as the capstone, where students independently develop a substantial game art project, showcasing their creative and technical expertise.
