COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Remote Sensing and GIS at Aberystwyth University is structured around core modules that provide a comprehensive foundation in geospatial analysis, remote sensing, and applied research skills. Advanced Research Skills 1: Science Communication and Data Analysis equips students with essential skills to interpret, present, and communicate complex scientific data effectively. Fundamentals of Remote Sensing and GIS introduces the principles and techniques required to collect, process, and analyse spatial data from a variety of sources, including satellite, airborne, and drone sensors. Applications of Remote Sensing and GIS builds on this foundation, allowing students to apply these tools to practical environmental challenges, such as land cover change, forest biomass assessment, and disease risk mapping. Applied Geospatial Skills in Industry focuses on industry-relevant techniques and real-world applications, ensuring students develop employable skills in geospatial analysis and data interpretation. Living Earth: Environmental Monitoring explores the use of geospatial technologies to monitor and assess environmental conditions and changes. Machine Learning for Geospatial Applications introduces computational and programming approaches for advanced spatial data analysis, including predictive modelling and data-driven insights. The Research Dissertation in Geographical Information Systems and Remote Sensing provides an opportunity to undertake an independent, in-depth research project, integrating theoretical knowledge and practical skills. Collectively, these modules equip graduates with advanced technical, analytical, and research capabilities, preparing them for careers in environmental consultancy, conservation, resource management, and further postgraduate study in geospatial sciences.
