COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Equine Science at Aberystwyth University is structured around core modules that provide comprehensive scientific and practical training in equine biology and management. Core modules include Animal Breeding and Genetics, Equine Nutrition, and Equine Reproductive Physiology and Breeding Technology, giving students a solid foundation in the biological, physiological and genetic principles that underpin horse health and performance. Infection and Immunity equips learners with an understanding of disease processes and preventive strategies, while Understanding Equine Action: from Anatomy to Behaviour explores the anatomical, biomechanical and behavioural aspects of equine movement and welfare. The dissertation provides an opportunity for students to undertake an in-depth, independent research project, applying their theoretical knowledge and practical skills to a specialised area of equine science. Optional modules allow further development of expertise, with choices such as Field and Laboratory Techniques, Frontiers in the Biosciences, and Statistical Concepts, Methods and Tools, supporting research competence, analytical skills and practical methodologies. Together, the core and optional modules offer a well-rounded curriculum that integrates scientific understanding, applied research and practical experience.
