COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Data Science at Aberystwyth University is a multidisciplinary program designed to develop the skills and knowledge required to interpret and analyze large datasets using advanced computational and statistical techniques. The core curriculum includes a range of essential modules that equip students with a strong foundation in data analytics, machine learning, data security, and statistical methods. Advanced Data Analytics introduces students to modern data analysis techniques and tools used to interpret complex datasets, while Machine Learning for Intelligent Systems focuses on algorithmic models that allow systems to learn from data and make intelligent decisions.Modelling, Managing and Securing Data explores how data is stored, organized, and protected, addressing key aspects of database design, data integrity, and cybersecurity. Two advanced statistics modules—Statistical Concepts, Methods and Tools and Statistical Techniques for Computational Scientists—provide the theoretical and practical knowledge needed to apply statistical thinking in data-driven environments, combining mathematical rigor with real-world applications.Students can tailor their learning through optional modules such as Fundamentals of Intelligent Systems, which examines the principles behind autonomous systems, and Programming for Scientists, aimed at enhancing programming capabilities in scientific contexts. A major feature of the course is the 60-credit Dissertation, in which students undertake an independent research project.
