COURSE CURRICULUM

The MRes Parasite Control at Aberystwyth University is structured around core and optional modules that provide both in-depth scientific knowledge and practical research experience in parasitology. Core modules include Hot Topics in Parasite Control, which examines contemporary challenges and advances in the field, and Infection and Immunity, which provides a detailed understanding of host-pathogen interactions and immune responses. Central to the program are the MRes Dissertation modules, which allow students to undertake an extensive, independent research project, applying theoretical knowledge and laboratory skills to investigate complex questions in parasite biology, disease prevention, and control strategies. Optional modules enhance the practical and technical training of students, with Field and Laboratory Techniques offering hands-on experience in experimental methods, Frontiers in the Biosciences providing exposure to cutting-edge research developments, and Statistical Concepts, Methods and Tools equipping students with the quantitative and analytical skills necessary to interpret experimental data effectively. Together, these modules integrate interdisciplinary approaches, covering molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, epidemiology, and vector biology, ensuring graduates develop a comprehensive skill set. The program prepares students for careers in parasitology, biomedical research, veterinary science, public health, and related sectors, or for further postgraduate study, providing the knowledge, expertise, and practical experience required to address pressing global challenges in parasite control and infectious disease management.
