COURSE CURRICULUM

The MRes Equine Science at Aberystwyth University combines in-depth independent research with a selection of taught modules to provide a comprehensive training in equine biology and applied science. The core of the program consists of two substantial dissertation components, allowing students to carry out an extended, year-long research project under the guidance of expert supervisors. This project provides hands-on experience in experimental design, data analysis and the interpretation of results, equipping students with advanced research skills applicable to careers in academia, industry or further study. Alongside the dissertation, students can select from a range of optional modules tailored to their interests and career goals. These include Animal Breeding and Genetics, Equine Nutrition, and Equine Reproductive Physiology and Breeding Technology, which focus on the biological and physiological aspects of equine science. Additional options such as Field and Laboratory Techniques, Frontiers in the Biosciences, Hot Topics in Parasite Control, Infection and Immunity, Statistical Concepts, Methods and Tools, and Understanding Equine Action: from Anatomy to Behaviour provide practical skills, analytical competence, and broader scientific knowledge. Together, the combination of core and optional modules ensures a well-rounded program, preparing graduates for PhD study, professional research roles, or specialised positions within the equine and wider animal science industries.
