COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA War, Strategy and Intelligence at Aberystwyth University is structured around core and optional modules that equip students with a thorough understanding of contemporary and historical conflict, strategy, and intelligence. Core modules include Warfare in the 21st Century, which examines modern conflict dynamics, technological developments, and strategic challenges, and the Dissertation, providing students with the opportunity to conduct independent research on a topic of their choosing within war, strategy, or intelligence studies. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests and career goals, covering subjects such as British Counterinsurgency Warfare in the Twentieth Century, Critical Studies in Asia-Pacific Security, Indigenous Politics, Intelligence, Security and International Relations in the 20th Century, International Politics, Knowledge and Expertise in International Politics, Logistics in War, Order-Making in International Politics, Race, (Im)mobility and Incarceration, Refugee Simulation: Knowledge and Application, and Russia at War since 1812. Together, these modules integrate theoretical knowledge, historical insight, and practical analysis, enabling students to understand the conceptual and empirical underpinnings of war, strategic decision-making, and intelligence operations. Graduates gain the analytical, research, and critical thinking skills necessary for careers in defence, security, intelligence, policy analysis, and related academic or consultancy roles.
