COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA International Relations at Aberystwyth University combines core modules with a wide range of optional courses, offering both a solid theoretical foundation and the flexibility to explore specialised areas of international politics. The core modules, International Politics and the Dissertation, equip students with a thorough understanding of global political theories, key actors, and contemporary challenges, while providing the opportunity to undertake independent research on a topic of their choice. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to specific interests, covering diverse aspects of international relations, security, and global governance. Topics include British counterinsurgency warfare in the twentieth century, critical studies in Asia-Pacific security, and indigenous politics, alongside specialised studies in intelligence, security, logistics in war, and order-making in international politics. Modules also examine human and social dimensions of global politics, such as race, mobility, incarceration, and refugee experiences. Historical perspectives are incorporated through courses like Russia at War since 1812 and Warfare in the 21st Century. Together, these modules provide a rigorous, interdisciplinary approach that blends theoretical knowledge, historical context, and practical analysis.
