COURSE CURRICULUM

The LLB Law and Criminology degree at Aberystwyth University combines comprehensive legal training with in-depth criminology study, equipping students with the knowledge and skills to understand law, crime, and justice in contemporary society. In the first year, students cover foundational areas including criminal law, crime control and prevention, legal skills, and an introduction to criminology, while also having options to study contract law, tort, psychology, and criminology in action. The second year allows students to deepen their understanding through optional modules such as criminal justice placement, cybercrime and cybersecurity, psychological explanations of criminal behaviour, critical perspectives on imprisonment, public law, and family and child law, alongside traditional legal subjects like equity and trusts, European law, international law, and medicine, ethics and the law. In the third year, students undertake a dissertation to develop research and analytical skills and have the opportunity to select from a wide range of advanced modules, including advocacy skills, criminal law practice, critical and radical criminology, crime and the media, employment law, cybercrime, youth crime and justice, and treatments and rehabilitation of offenders, among others. The degree integrates theoretical knowledge with practical application, preparing graduates for careers in law, criminology, criminal justice, policy development, or related professional fields, and provides the skills needed to analyse and respond to complex legal and social issues.
