COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Wildlife Conservation degree at Aberystwyth University is structured over three years, combining core and optional modules to provide a comprehensive understanding of biodiversity, ecology, and conservation science. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules on climate and climate change, ecology and conservation, genetics, evolution and diversity, microbial and plant diversity, and practical skills for wildlife scientists. Optional modules such as biological chemistry and comparative animal physiology allow students to explore additional scientific principles relevant to wildlife studies. The second year emphasizes applied conservation skills and research, with core modules including wildlife surveying, marine biology, research methods, and geographic information systems and landscape ecology. Optional modules provide opportunities to study animal behavior, tropical zoology, and the impacts of climate change on plants, animals, and ecosystems. In the third year, students focus on advanced conservation topics, including global biodiversity conservation, wildlife conservation, and a substantial research project. Optional modules allow students to gain field-based experience in areas such as animal behavior, freshwater and marine biology, terrestrial ecology, sustainable land management, population and community ecology, and environmental regulation. Overall, the program combines theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and field experience, equipping graduates with the scientific understanding, research capabilities, and applied expertise necessary for careers in wildlife conservation, ecological research, environmental consultancy, and related fields.
